NATIONAL CAMPING & CARAVANNING WEEK 2018

This year, The Camping and Caravanning Club have joined forces with the British Mountaineering Council (BMC) to get the nation active in the outdoors through walking and camping.
The National Camping and Caravanning Week runs from Monday May 28th to Sunday June 3rd, to coincide with the May bank Holiday and is the clubs yearly celebration of all things camping and the wonderful great outdoors.

Whether you enjoy a gentle stroll or a strenuous trek in the mountains, walking is considered the number one activity for campers and caravanners. And by teaming up with the BMC the club wants to highlight the importance of looking after our countryside and footpaths, and the vital repair work that's needed across the countryside trails in our 15 National Parks. The BMC's Mend Our Mountains campaign aims to raise £1 million for repairs across the country.

Steve Backshall, BAFTA award-winning presenter and naturalist, said “Mountains delight the human spirit, and represent the most vital wilderness areas of our often crowded islands. When you’re in the hills, the temptation is to revel in their freedom, but in places of high use, there have to be maintained thoroughfares, or fragile mountain ecosystems will simply be eroded away.”

Julia Bradbury, TV presenter and President of the Camping and Caravanning Club said, "i'm really excited to be involved in this years event, especially given it's walking theme, it's time to get the tent out of the garage, lace up your walking boots and go camping. I hope the nation joins us- even if it's for the first time"

To mark the week, the Club is staging a VIP camping event at Alton, The Star Club Site in Staffordshire. The event will be packed with family fun walking-themed activities and live music plus an appearance from Andy Torbet, Club member and TV presenter. To be in with a chance of joining the event, enter the Clubs VIP camping competition at www.nccw.co.uk

NCCW aims to get the British public engaged with camping and caravanning, and to raise the profile of our great hobby. For inspiration on your next walk, why not have a look at the Clubs list of suggested circular walks from Club Sites?
